Five years ago, Steve and Joy Sakanashi responded to a call that God put on their hearts – to join in his mission of sharing the love of Christ with the country of Japan. Although this call took years to develop, Megumi Initiative was founded in 2012 with a unified vision of seeing more Japanese people experience the gospel in their own context and culture.
Beginning in Seattle, a large group of faithful volunteers served Japanese students at the University of Washington. Avenues for Japanese students to learn about entrepreneurial leadership were created with the program, “Sekai Creator.” In an effort to meet the growing need for English speaking partners and build meaningful relationships in the United States, “Eigo Café” was launched. Through business, English, and Bible teaching, God began moving powerfully in these Japanese students’ lives.
The Sakanashis moved to Japan in 2014 to begin planting roots in the city of Tokyo. In Tokyo, God continues to open doors of relationship and influence through which Steve and Joy faithfully love and serve their city in the name of Christ.
This movement continues to grow and flourish through the faithful service of many volunteers, generous donors, and fervent prayer. Join us on Saturday, August 12th, at Purple Restaurant in Bellevue to hear from the Sakanashis and others about the ways in which God has and continues to move through Megumi Initiative. It’s a time to celebrate what God has done in and through the lives of those impacted by this ministry, as well as cast vision about what the next five years may look like.
*If you are unable to attend but would like to contribute towards the event, please consider making a donation online via Giving Fire. This will allow us to sponsor seats for those who cannot afford the meal price.
